After walking out of Kris’s office, Millie sat at her desk, feeling more anxious than she had in a long time. This was definitely not how she’d expected the day to go.

It suddenly occurred to her that she had to let Thalassa know. Picking up her phone, she dialed her friend’s number, anxiously tapping her finger on her lap as she waited for the call to be answered.

“Why? What happened?” Thalassa questioned, her voice filled with concern.

“Apparently, he and his family never told anyone that they were going to the charity function. I was the only one who heard them discussing it. When he confronted me about it, I didn’t know how to deny it.”

Looking back, she realized that she might have had some luck if she’d denied it, had she not been so nervous.
