Thick tension hung in the air as Kris and Thalassa worked together to prepare breakfast. Thalassa kept her distance, focusing on chopping vegetables while Kris rinsed the potatoes and placed them in a bowl as instructed.

“I’m done,” Kris announced after a few minutes. He wished he could peel them himself, but that was impossible with one arm in a sling.

“You can hand them over,” Thalassa said, her voice as stiff as ever.

Nodding, Kris took the bowl and reached it out to her. She was so intent on avoiding their hands touching that the bowl nearly slipped from her hand.

“Careful,” Kris said, quickly placing his hand under hers to keep the bowl steady, feeling her tense up.

The position brought them close, their breaths quickening as they stared into each other’s eyes until Thalassa cleared her throat and freed her hand from his, setting the bowl onto the counter.

The rest of the cooking passed in silence, with Kris stealing glances at her every chance he got, taking in every inch of her bare, gorgeous face and body. Thalassa did her best to avoid looking at him, even when she had to give him instructions.

After almost an hour, they finished cooking and set the table together. Just then, Luisa arrived with their two security guards, each carrying several bags of groceries to the kitchen. Once they were done, she came to the table,

Thalassa glared at her in irritation, but Luisa’s wink made Kris’s heart warm. Even though she had said she wouldn’t interfere, Luisa was obviously showing her support for him, and he was grateful for it.
