Chapter 15 Begging for Divorce

At the dining table, Mason shot Emily a smile, noticing she looked a bit thinner since the last time he saw her.

"Emily, have you lost weight? Is Michael giving you a hard time again?" Mason asked, frowning.

Before Emily could answer, Scarlett chimed in, "With you around, who could possibly bully her?" She gave Emily a sarcastic glance.

Scarlett, despite being over fifty, looked like she was in her forties thanks to some serious upkeep. Like most rich ladies, she wasn't a fan of daughters-in-law from less wealthy backgrounds. Her disdain for Emily was pretty clear; she was cunning but not exactly bright.

"Did I ask you? Why are you butting in?" Mason snapped at Scarlett.

Scarlett, scolded by Mason, reluctantly shut her mouth.

"Grandpa, I think I've actually gained weight," Emily said, trying to lighten the mood.

Mason smiled again. "Eat up, you shouldn't always be dieting," he said, piling some of her favorite food onto her plate.

"Grandpa, you're so biased. You've never served me food before," came a voice before the person even appeared. Emily knew it was Michael's sister, Veda Smith.

Mason's face darkened as Veda in leather clothes, with colorful dyed hair and heavy makeup, walked in.

"Look at yourself! What's with your hair?" Mason was so mad at his rebellious granddaughter he nearly blew a gasket.

Veda ignored Mason, pulled out the chair next to Emily, and sat down. "Oh, Emily, finally showing your face?" Veda, around eighteen, was in her prime rebellious phase in the Smith family.
