He allowed Evelyn to hit him in the family chapel and was now gently tending to her wound with one goal in mind: to soften her heart and convince her to let Dahlia go. Five years ago, Rosa was going to punish Dahlia so many times. Evelyn was head over heels for Charles then. A mere look from him, and Evelyn would find herself pleading with Rosa on his behalf, insisting she was okay. Evelyn just couldn't stand to see him in any trouble. Back then, her love was so selfless and humble.

"Evelyn, Dahlia just cares too much..." Charles began, but Evelyn's face darkened immediately. Everything was just as she suspected. "I'll say it again. I won't release Dahlia early."

Evelyn tossed the blankets aside, disregarding her weakened state, and pushed herself up from the bed. "Evelyn!" Charles frowned, reaching for her uninjured hand to pull her back, but Evelyn shook him off easily. "Don't touch me."

She got out of bed, her face icy, and headed for the door. Before she reached it, Charles' phone rang. He paused and answered, "Sandy, what's wrong?"

"Daddy, where's Mommy? I want Mommy. Where is she?" Sandy had been with Dahlia from the day she was born. Deep down, she clung to Dahlia fiercely. Waking up without Dahlia there for a long time scared her into thinking Dahlia didn't want her anymore, so she called Charles, crying her heart out.
