"It wasn't me, Mr. Iverson. It wasn't..."

It was a struggle for Yvonne to speak. Her eyes reflected hurt and innocence.

No one knew better about the consequences of betraying Christopher than her. Yvonne did not want to die, not because death scared her. She simply did not want to disappear off the face of the earth without a trace or meaning.

Hence, she tried to get herself out of it. "Mr. Iverson, what do I get for betraying you? Taylor and I are the only ones well-versed in this case. You would've figured everything out in no time if I betrayed you. Why would I be so foolish to put myself in that situation?

"Besides, I have not stepped out of Pivotage, and you have eyes all over the place. My every move is under your surveillance. I wouldn't have the chance to communicate with Ms. Thompson and Mr. Salvador How would I betray you?"

Yvonne seemed to be heading in the right direction because Christopher's aggression subsided.

Eyeing her chance to de-escalate the situation, Yvonne said, "You gave me my life, Mr. Iverson. I'm nothing without you. I once set Mr. Salvador up. If they defeated you, they would come after me next." Though still suspicious, Christopher released the grip on Yvonne's arm.

Taylor barged in.

"I have bad news, Mr. Iverson."

Christopher tugged his necktie irritably. "What now?"

"D-Drew is here."
