Hailey paused as she saw the friend request and unread message. She thought, ‘I think I know why Owen’s upset.

“Did you look at my phone?” she asked, glancing at Owen.

She caught Owen quickly averting his gaze, then trying to compose himself as he shook his head. “No.”

Hailey was pretty sure now.

She waved the phone in front of him. “You saw this message, didn’t you?”

Owen remained silent.

“Owen, why are you so insecure?” she asked with a playful tilt of her head, her eyes sparkling. “You’re the President of Calhoun Group. How could a message like this make you doubt yourself? If I choose to be with you, it’s because you’re special to me. Do you think I’d be swayed by just anyone confessing to me? I’m not that easily moved.”

He glanced at Hailey, his expression shifting as if he wanted to ask her something. But just then, a car horn broke the

moment.

The light had turned green.

Owen pushed the thought aside and focused on driving. He couldn’t help but feel a strange sense of relief.

He had always believed that as long as he made the effort and she accepted it, everything would be fine. After all, he was the one who made the first move, so Hailey didn’t need to give anything back. All that mattered to him was knowing she was his.

Owen thought, ‘But seeing someone else approach her, boldly saying they’re going to take her from me… I’m starting to panic. I’m not sure anymore. Hailey’s never said she loves me. Our relationship started because of my actions, not her feelings.

‘Now there’s another guy, someone her age–what if she suddenly wakes up? What if she gets attracted to him? What if…’

But the doubts that had been gnawing at him slowly faded away with Hailey’s words.

Owen drove faster, the tension easing in his chest until they arrived at the villa.

“Wasn’t I supposed to be going home? Why are we at your villa?” Hailey asked, turning around, confused, as the car came to a

stop.

Owen drove into the garage without saying a word and opened her door.
