Chapter 171

Chapter 171

Owen smiled, leaned in closer to Hailey, and kissed her lips softly. “Not supposed to be like this?

Hailey’s heart raced.

She knew she shouldn’t feel this way, but she couldn’t stop her heart from fluttering for him.

“Hailey, you shouldn’t have kept this from me,” Owen murmured, his voice low and tender. “When we met and fell in love, we didn’t know about this connection. We were just two ordinary people, falling in love. We didn’t break any rules

“But…”

“There’s no ‘but.” Owen lifted his hand and pulled her into his embrace, his fingers gently brushing through her soft, long hair. “Hailey, as long as we don’t speak of it, no one will ever know.”

Hailey’s heart skipped a beat. She grabbed Owen’s wrist and pulled her head up from his chest, her eyes filled with confusion and fear. “Owen, what are you going to do?”

Owen tenderly caressed her cheek, his gaze dark and intense. “I’ll handle this.”

“Owen!” Hailey’s voice trembled.

“Trust me,” Owen said quietly, his tone calm as though he had already figured everything out.

Hailey looked at him, biting her lip slightly. She had no idea what was happening anymore. After two years, she couldn’t read Owen the way she used to. When he wanted to hide something, she couldn’t see through it at all.

Owen smiled gently, his handsome face full of warmth. “You’re still weak. The doctor said you’re anemic and you’ve had a heat stroke. Haven’t you been eating properly lately?”

Hailey pressed her lips together. “The weather’s been so hot… I couldn’t eat.”

“I’ll have the housekeeper make some light dishes to help with your appetite tomorrow,” Owen said softly. What Hailey had feared and worried about seemed like nothing to him.

Hailey sighed deeply as she looked at him. She wasn’t sure how Owen managed to stay so composed, but she felt like she was no longer able to return to the way things were.

The room felt warm, so Owen turned on the air conditioning to a comfortable temperature before pulling her into his arms and onto the bed.

Hailey’s body resisted, but her body couldn’t push him away.

It had been so long since they had been this close. If they stayed apart forever, Hailey could endure the pain of separation.

But after two years, they were tangled together again.
