The acrid stench of blood mixed with the earthy, gunpowder–laden air surged into Hailey’s nostrils, searing her lungs with every breath.

She could hardly breathe, feeling like the world was spinning uncontrollably.

Her ears rang with a deafening silence; she couldn’t hear anything, couldn’t see anything, Desperately, she tried to shout Owen’s name, but no sound left her lips.

It was a scream of terror without a voice.

In the haze, Hailey faintly heard the wailing sirens of police cars and the distant shouts of the crowd.

Then everything went black as she passed out.

When Gracie and the police arrived, they could hardly believe their eyes.

A warehouse had been reduced to rubble, engulfed in flames. The acrid scent of burning chemicals and gunpowder hung heavy in the air, suffocating anyone nearby. The grass within a five–kilometer radius had been scorched, and thick black smoke billowed into the sky.

Firefighters were swiftly working to contain the flames, launching a rescue operation.

The rescue efforts lasted for nearly three hours.

They found Hailey and Owen not far from the epicenter of the blast. Both were unconscious, but Owen’s injuries were severe, and he was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Later, another body was found–charred and unrecognizable–at the blast site. It was a woman, completely obliterated by the explosion.

The news spread like wildfire. By that evening, it was all over the trending news and newspapers.

The question on everyone’s mind: where did the explosives come from?

Authorities quickly mobilized a team to investigate.

Hailey slept for a long time.

It wasn’t until two days later that she finally regained consciousness.

When she woke up, the smell of smoke and gunpowder still lingered in the air, clinging to her senses.

She stared blankly at the ceiling, still in a daze.

The door opened, and Raphael stepped into the room. As soon as he saw her eyes flicker open, he immediately pressed the emergency button by her bed.

“Hailey, how do you feel? I’ve called for the doctor, they’ll be here soon. Don’t worry,” Raphael said with a sense of urgency.

Hailey blinked slowly, her eyes drifting toward him. A flash of confusion crossed her face. “What are you sa
