Chapter 12
Chapter 12
KAEL.
The day went by so slowly. My personal doctor was here and checked all my vitals. According to him, it appeared that I had recovered well, but he still advised me to take things slow and not strain myself by overworking. If he only knew I was not even thinking about work.
After lunch, Desiree asked if we could go around the open market as it officially opened today, marking the start of spring. Since I had no intention of working, I agreed.
While we were there, she tried to hold my hand, but it felt wrong as I hadn't officially announced my divorce from Adessa, so I told her to keep her hands off mine for now. She didn't like it, but she didn't complain, but I was sure she would scold me later.
We went around, and some of my people approached us, but no one seemed to ask about Adessa, but they were ignoring Desiree as well. Until one female approached me and gave me a bouquet of flowers. I thought it was for me, but she wanted me to give it to Adessa. She said she was her biggest customer, and she always looked forward to Adessa's visit every weekend to personally choose flowers for our home. She was grateful because Adessa had brought her more customers by telling others about her. And even if she offered her discounts and free flowers, Adessa never took them. She would always insist on paying.
I didn't have the heart to inform her Adessa was gone and that no one would visit her this weekend for another bulk order. Instead, I smiled and thanked her. I told her I would deliver the flowers.
Desiree's mood went down after that, so she asked that we go home. I told her she could go home, and I let my driver drive her while I walked on my own toward the central hall.
Nobody expected me to go there, so everyone started rolling their asses when I stepped in, but I didn't have time for any pleasantries. I just wanted a moment of silence, so I locked myself in my office, just staring at the dull wall in front of me while contemplating my next move.
My thoughts went back to Adessa's letter and then the handwritten instructions on the folder.
My forehead creased when I realized the handwriting was different. The letter was written in print, while the note on the folders with her instructions was in beautiful cursive letters.
I knew anyone could shift between the two handwritings, but she did sign her name in cursive on that goodbye letter. I couldn't remember what it looked like, but I had to check.
I knew she left. I knew she was moving on, but a part of me didn't want to believe she was cutting all ties.
But what the hell do I expect?
before standing up, grabbing my jacket, and heading toward the door. I had to see the letter again. Just one confirmation that it was really her goodbye letter and not someone messing up my mind. Then I would move on. I opened the door when the phone on my
