Chapter 17

KAEL.

I played the video I got from the jewelry shop on my TV and watched it repeatedly, trying to make sense of her actions.

She received a small amount of money. I could tell by the number of bills she had received.

Was she stupid enough to believe the ring had no value?

I also noticed she was trembling when she entered the shop. It was not a clear video, but I could tell by the way she hugged herself and shook her hands. Her demeanor was too different from that of confident Adessa, who had signed our divorce papers. She looked lost in that video. As if she was afraid of something or someone.

"Fuck!" My hands rose to my head, and I gripped my hair tightly. I shouldn't worry about her and just focus on getting the ring back.

Right. She was moving on. I must do the same.

I shut off the TV and threw the remote control on the couch nearby before turning off the bedlamp.

I forced myself to sleep, but sleep seemed to be impossible at the moment because of the many thoughts running through my head. I kept remembering how her face lit up when she entered the room when I woke up and how it fell when I told her not to touch me. I shoved my blanket aside, got out of bed, and walked to the balcony connected to my room.

The moon was shining brightly, indicating a good night to let my wolf out for a run.

Without any more thought, I pulled down my sweatpants, including my boxers, before stepping onto the concrete banisters and leaping into the air.

I landed on the dusty ground below my balcony with a loud thud, and already in my paws. I didn't waste time and dashed off to the concrete road that would lead me to the vast forest nearby.

As soon as my paws hit the forest grounds, my wolf stopped running and let out a loud cry to the moon-relaying to Selene the confusion in my heart.

I kept telling myself Adessa was someone who was not important. I should forget about her. And yet, a part of me didn't want to. In just 24 hours, she awakened something in me even though she wasn't here anymore.

And then there was Desiree. My mind told me I wanted her, but a certain voice in my head told me otherwise.

I didn't want to make a decision I would regret later on. I had to move on.

Alone.
