Chapter 59

LADESSA.

Sasha came, and I felt out of place right away because she made it seem she knew Kael more than I did. Or maybe I was just overthinking things, as they obviously knew each other way before I existed in Kael's life. But to be fair with Kael, he made it a point to include me in their conversation or at least explain things when Sasha would throw remarks or tell a story like it was their little secret.

Maybe I was just being jealous, but I couldn't help it. It seemed every female I encountered these days was, in one way or another, related to Kael and had a past with him.

"More drinks?" Sasha approached and filled Kael's glass with red wine. Kael was sitting beside me, his arm resting on the back of my chair so his skin was brushing against the back of my neck.

"Tell me, you really don't drink?" Kael asked as Sasha sat back on her chair in front of us. The three of us were seated at the dining table while Erika took four-year-old Gabe, Sasha's son, for a bath before bed. I shook my head in response, our eyes just staring at each other.

That was a lie. I did drink. But since Kael didn't have any memories of us together, I felt it was safer to lie than to explain why I didn't want to drink.

I was not sure if I was pregnant, and I wouldn't be taking risks.

I smiled at him sweetly before caressing his cheek because I could feel the hair on my skin standing. Sasha must be staring at me with dagger eyes. "You're drunk already. Don't drink more, or you might pass out and..."

"Will you take care of me when I get too drunk?" Kael cut me off from talking, and his eyes were twinkling. He was definitely drunk. That was their second bottle of wine.

"I always take care of you when you're drunk." This time, I answered from the heart, not because I was showing off.

"I must be really lucky." His head dropped down, and his nose nuzzled my neck, sending a shiver of pleasure down my spine. "You smell so sweet."

Typical drunk Kael.

He was drunk, but I was sure he still knew what he was doing. He just couldn't control his actions and his mouth.

"No more drinking." I reminded him because his hand on the table was about to lift the wine glass again. I took the wine glass from him and moved it where he couldn't reach it.
