Chapter 99

Hailey opened her mouth, but was at a loss for words.

It was true that Owen had come here because of her.

Hailey sighed helplessly and stood up, saying, “I’ll go buy your ticket.”

Owen nodded slightly and remained in his seat, waiting patiently for her.

He hadn’t slept all night, and coupled with his stomach pain, he looked extremely haggard. Yet even so, it couldn’t hide his striking features. In fact, his pale complexion and weary state only added a sense of melancholic charm.

Hailey bought him a ticket, along with a bottle of water, some bread, and a sausage.

Owen had no appetite, so he could only eat plain food. The small–town supermarket didn’t offer much else, and he could only make do with those.

Owen wasn’t picky, and given his poor appetite, he couldn’t eat much anyway. He barely managed a few bites before feeling exhausted.

Leaning his head against Hailey’s shoulder, he weakly murmured, “I haven’t slept all night. Let me rest for a bit.”

Hailey had just lifted her hand, intending to push him away, but in the end, she let it drop.

After all, he was only there and suffered so much because of her.

The man rested against her shoulder, closed his eyes, and couldn’t help but curl his lips slightly.

They stayed in that position for a long time. At 1:45 p.m., they finally boarded the bus.

From the bus, they traveled to the county, then took a high–speed train to the city. After a journey of nearly twenty–four hours, they finally arrived in Hallon City.

Hailey hadn’t told anyone she was returning.

When she had bought an apartment for Christopher, she had also purchased one for herself, which was fully furnished and ready to move into.

She dropped Owen off at the Calhoun family’s residence, watched him go inside, and then headed to her own apartment.

She planned to stay there for a couple of days to clear her thoughts before returning to the Dalton family.

Her apartment was in Riverside Estate in a slightly secluded area.

As soon as Hailey got out of the car and walked toward the building, she spotted a familiar figure.
