Chapter 106
Due to heavy traffic, Hailey didn’t arrive at the restaurant until half past five. What was worse, a sudden downpour had left her completely drenched.
Seeing it was raining outside, Raphael was standing at the entrance. Spotting her figure on the street, he quickly approached. The rain was completely unexpected, so he didn’t take an umbrella. He had no choice but to drape his jacket over his head to shield her as she made her way from the car.
Parking was not allowed before the entrance, so Hailey had expected to brave the rain alone, but the moment she stepped out of the car, to her surprise, she was pulled into an embrace.
Raphael pulled her close, sheltering them both under his jacket. “Ready? Let’s run,” he said, holding the makeshift cover overhead. Hailey hesitated, but refusing would seem overly cautious. Nodding, she let him guide her through the rain, and rushed to the entrance of the restaurant together with him.
Once inside, Raphael glanced at her damp hair and sighed. “What bad weather. We should’ve picked another day.”
The winter storm was unusually harsh this year and made the air even much more freezing than ever. Hailey’s cheeks were flushed from the cold. She sneezed, prompting Raphael to drape his jacket over her shoulders. “The heater is on. It’s warm inside. Let’s go in,” he said, steering her forward.
The second they walked into the restaurant, they bumped into Owen and Alice. Actually, they were here purely for business today, but the situation looked extremely awkward, especially with Hailey in another man’s arms.
Unaware of their breakup, Alice barely contained her excitement as she saw Hailey walking intimately with another man. “Miss Dalton,” she feigned surprise, “you’re all drenched. What’s going on? By the way, who is this gentleman?”
She was overjoyed inside that before she could do anything, Hailey had already made a fool of herself right before Owen.
Hailey ignored her, locking eyes with Owen instead. His expression remained indifferent, so she turned back to Alice with a polite smile. “Miss Gibbs, are you here for business?”
