Perhaps fate had a cruel sense of humor, arranging for me to see Alexander one last time.

I was oddly calm about the news, gently wiping away Rachel’s tears. “Stop crying. have three months.”

I refused to spend my final months in a hospital bed. After Rachel helped me check out, I used Alexander’s “funeral money” to buy myself a nice plot of land. Ironic – I could never afford my own home while alive, but thanks to my ex–husband’s contempt, I could at least have a permanent resting place.

I even visited the funeral home to choose my own arrangements: Rachel thought I was being morbid, but it felt strangely peaceful.

Back home, Rachel sent me a link with an urgent message: “You need to see this!”

It was footage from that night at the gala. The video captured everything Emily kicking me, Alexander’s accusations, the wine being thrown at me as I knelt on the ground. The caption read:
