Chapter 8

It was nearly dawn when they got home.

Isabella had fallen asleep before they even reached home.

Carrying Isabella upstairs, Franklin passed the master bedroom and noticed the door was open, but it was pitch black inside.

After putting Isabella to bed, he returned to the master bedroom, turned on the dim lights, and glanced at the bed–empty.

Maggie wasn’t there. Just then, the butler brought up his luggage.

Franklin loosened his tie and asked, “Where is she?”

The butler quickly replied, “Madam went on a business trip.”

He hadn’t been present when Maggie left with her luggage half a month ago.

Other servants had mentioned seeing her leave with luggage, presumably for a business

trip.

Strangely, Maggie rarely traveled for business before, and when she did, it was usually for just two or three days.

This time she’d been gone for half a month. Franklin merely grunted in acknowledgment, asking nothing more.

The next day.

Franklin ran into Maggie at the company.

Unaware that Franklin and Isabella had returned, Maggie froze momentarily at the

unexpected encounter.
