Corrine stepped inside and headed straight to Kinsley’s room—only to find the bed empty.

She reached for her phone, preparing to call, when a familiar voice called her name. “Corrine.”

She turned—and there was Kinsley, easing herself forward in a wheelchair, framed by the soft hallway light.

Corrine slid her phone back into her pocket and hurried toward her. “Where were you?”

Kinsley gave a small shrug, her hands resting on the wheels. “Went out for some air. It gets a little suffocating in there after a while.”
