Chapter 92

Katrina's POV

I rushed to my room immediately, slamming the door shut behind me. I needed to do something about Maria, but I couldn't hurt her. I was about to rush over to Silas' room but I stopped in my tracks, my eyes falling on the clock on the wall.

What are the chances of Silas being up by this time? A lot of them actually. But can I go see him with the excuse of Maria? Wouldn't it seem as if I wanted something else?

I couldn't trust Silas or myself and so I fell on my bed, forcing myself to sleep.

The next morning, I stormed into Silas's office, pushing the door open. My heart raced in my chest and I clenched my fists so hard my nails bit into my palms.

The sun was barely up and I had just woken up but I couldn't keep quiet about it any much longer.

Maria's mocking laughter still echoed in my ears, and my arm stung from where her nails had dug into my skin. She had to be stopped, and Silas was the only one who could do it.

It was quite obvious she was doing this for him, because she was meant to be his wife and I got married to him. But why couldn't she make an attempt on his life instead of mine? He was the one who had forced me to get married to him and not the other way around. Silas sat behind his desk, his face was blank as usual. His eyes fell on me the moment I pushed the door open, and I swallowed hard.

A woman was seated across from him, dressed in a black suit that screamed authority. A for was a member of this mafia, I had seen her before. Her sharp eyes flicked to me when I barged in, and a sneer curled on her lips.

I didn't have the time to banter with someone right now.

"Silas," I said, ignoring her completely, "I need to talk to you. It's about Maria."

The woman raised a brow and smirked. "Oh, look. Here comes the little damsel in distress," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "What happened this time? Did you trip over your own shadow?"

I froze, the words hitting me like a slap. For a moment, I considered letting it go, as I always did. But then something inside me snapped. It's always this way with them, they say something and I let them. It was getting tiring. I stepped forward, hardening my gaze as I glared up at her. "Say that again. To my face."
