Chapter 94

Katrina's POV

I didn't think, I just acted. My heart dropped to my stomach and at some point, I felt crazy for doing what I had done.

"Silas!" I screamed once more, and he immediately turned around.

The world spun as I jumped over the banister with my heart racing. My only goal was to get to Silas. I didn't care how reckless it was or how stupid it might seem-I needed him at this moment. Right now it was a moment of life or death. Literally.

My stomach flipped as I soared through the air and for a moment, I wondered if I'd completely lost my mind.

But then, strong arms caught me and the impact knocked the breath out of me. Silas.

My lips pulled into a relieved smile and I wrapped my arms around his neck. For a moment, I thought he wasn't going to catch me and I was going to be kissing the floor.

"Katrina," Silas growled loudly, and I pulled away from him with my heart racing.

His face was a mixture of shock and anger as he steadied me in his arms. "Are you out of your damn mind, Katrina? What the hell were you thinking?" he snapped, his tone dropping down a notch.

I glared up at him, still breathless but furious. "Did you not hear the gunshot, Silas? What else was I supposed to do, wave

politely?" I couldn't help the sarcasm dripping from my words, my face scrunched up in annoyance.

I was being chased down by Chris and I had no choice but to jump down. Running down the staircase would have been a waste of time.

His jaw tightened as his eyes darted up toward the banister and I watched as they darkened slightly. My stomach sank as I followed his gaze. Chris stood there, his face twisted in fury, the gun glinting in his hand. "What is that filthy mutt doing on my property?" Silas growled low in his throat, the sound sending chills down my spine.

That was a question I wanted to ask myself, how did Chris get here. Silas clutched me tighter in his arms, steadying me to prevent me from falling.

"Men!" he barked, his voice echoing through the hall. His men, who had conveniently been absent earlier, rushed toward him.

Funny how they weren't here when I was about to be killed by him earlier:

He pointed up at Chris without another word. The fury on his face was unlike anything I'd ever seen before. I didn't know if I was meant to be scared but I was happy the anger wasnt directed at me. "Bring him to me. Alive," he commanded, his voice ice cold.

Chris's confidence faltered for a split second, but then he smirked, clearly believing he could outsmart them.

I wasn't certain where he wanted to go, or how he planned on escaping from them. But I wanted to see him do it. With no hesitation, he ran down the hallway, running out of sight.

"How did you think jumping down from the staircase was the best thing to do?" Silas growled in my ears, grabbing my cheeks and turning my face to him.

My heart skipped a beat and I pouted subconsciously. "It was the first thing that came to mind at that point,"
