Chapter 1168

Faye had just set her phone down, half-expecting another directive from her boss, when she saw it was a thumbs-up emoji from Logan. She couldn't help but burst into laughter, picturing Logan fumbling around only to end up sending that emoji. He must be feeling pretty smug, right? Dr. Pendleton looked up from his desk at the sound of Faye's laughter, squinting his eyes at her as if he was onto something. "What's got you all giddy?" Faye felt a bit uneasy under his gaze, sensing that he was about to stir some trouble. "Spill it, Faye. Are you about to tell me there's a new romance brewing?" He hit the nail on the head so precisely that Faye nearly choked on her water. "What? Who's talking about romance? With whom?"

"Getting defensive, are we?" Dr. Pendleton raised an eyebrow. "I was just probing, and you've pretty much confirmed it without me having to push."

Faye managed a wry smile. "You almost had me there. Since when did I start dating and no one informed me?"

"Well, you've been glued to your phone more than ever, and every time you check it, there's this smile. If that's not love, then what is?" Dr. Pendleton deduced, based on her recent behavior. Faye felt a tad guilty; was it that obvious?

However, their conversation was cut short as Dr. Pendleton had to make his rounds. Just when Faye thought she had dodged a bullet, he turned back with a mischievous look. "Don't think you're off the hook. I'll be back to grill you more!" Faye, resigned to her fate, grabbed the medical files and started her own rounds. Along the way, she greeted numerous interns who all acknowledged her warmly.

When she reached the fifth floor, she inevitably ran into Dr. Barbara, who seemed to carry herself with an air of superiority. Faye, not wanting to engage in any pettiness, swiftly moved into a patient's room to avoid further confrontation. But Barbara, like a bad penny, followed her everywhere, creating quite a scene in the crowded patient's room.

The patient, an elderly gentleman, seemed puzzled by the commotion. It wasn't every day he saw so many doctors fussing over him, especially when one seemed ready to pick a fight.

Faye, ignoring Barbara's presence, focused on the patient's recovery progress, engaging him in a calm conversation while also instructing the interns on key points to note.
