Chapter 332

The moment the first gunshot shattered the silence, Joshua braced himself against the top of the wall and vaulted down.

He landed steadily right beside Xylia.

Xylia hurried over, worry written all over her face. “Are you alright? Did you get hurt?”

Joshua shook his head, his eyes reassuring. ‘No need to worry, I’m fine, he thought.

He kicked the wooden ladder away and grabbed Xylia’s hand, pulling her along as they dashed out.

There was no path on this side of the wall, so Joshua hadn’t brought the car around–didn’t want to tip anyone off.

Originally, the plan was to take Xylia down a side trail to the road below, where a getaway car would be waiting for them.

Joshua and Xylia had barely taken a few steps down the trail when unfamiliar voices drifted up from below.

Joshua instantly recognized the language–it was Daltonian.

One of the men called out, “They really do have backup here! Boss said, even if they’re corpses, we drag them back!”

Joshua didn’t hesitate–he immediately pulled Xylia and dashed in the opposite direction.

The trail ahead was a mess–twisted, tangled, and hard to run on.

Xylia kept stumbling as the wild grass and vines snagged at her feet.

She gripped Joshua’s hand like a lifeline, eyes scanning every step as she rushed to keep up with him.

‘I can’t be a burden to Joshua. Not now. Xylia told herself, forcing her legs to move faster.

But out of nowhere, Xylia suddenly felt herself swept off her feet.

Joshua spun around, effortlessly scooping her onto his back without missing a beat, his stride relentless.

“Xylia, I’m taking you to the back mountain. You have to hold on tight, alright? We’ve got to make it down. before nightfall,” he said, his voice steady with urgency.

Xylia clung to his shoulders, her heart was in her throat as she listened to the seriousness in his voice.

“You’re going to wear yourself out like this. Put me down, really–I can keep up,” she said, worry clear in her

voice.

Joshua let out a soft, low chuckle. “It’s not about you keeping up. The path ahead is rough. I used to be in the army–I’m a lot more familiar with this terrain than you. Just hold on tight.”
