The Alpha Bond 89

Chapter Eighty Nine

The air in the training grounds still carried the weight of yesterday's battle. I could feel it—a lingering tension, the kind that crawled under your skin and refused to leave. My body ached from our morning drills, but the soreness was nothing compared to the unease curling in my gut.

Eira had called us together after training, her expression unreadable as she stood before us. Her usual confidence was there, but something in her stance had shifted-guarded, calculating. That wasn't like her.

We stood in a loose circle, my mates surrounding me like an unspoken shield. Austin stood just to my left, arms crossed, his body radiating tension. Isaiah and Alex flanked me, 'their gazes sharp and alert, while Elijah lingered just behind, silent but watchful.

Eira's expression was unreadable, her stance unwavering. There was shift in the air around her-something colder, sharper. I had seen her serious before, but today, there was something else behind her gaze.

After what felt like an eternity she finally spoke.

"The witch you battled yesterday..." Her eyes flickered toward me. "She wasn't just any witch of the Children of the Eclipse. She was a high witch. One of their leaders."

A sharp silence fell over us.

A slow, creeping sense of dread slithered through me.

Austin was the first to speak. "That doesn't make sense. No one knew we were here.

"Yes your right Austin," she replied "Every precaution was taken to keep your location hidden. If they were going to attack, they should've gone after the Umbral Society's headquarters in the human realm. Because that is where everyone thinks you are. The fact that they came here instead..." her voice trailed off as the realization hit. "It means one thing."

Alex's jaw tightened. "There's a traitor among you."

The words rang in my ears.

Isaiah cursed under his breath. "You're saying someone sold us out?

Eira's expression was grim. "Yes."

My stomach twisted.

Someone had given them our location. Someone had put us all in danger. A sharp, unrelenting anger built inside me, but I forced myself to stay calm. Losing control now wouldn't help us.
