“Thank goodness for that,” I say.

Warrior training went really well. The pack responded positively to my form of training and they enjoyed sparring against my friends. Since all of them but Landon are Alphas, and he’s an incredible warrior, they’re all very good at instructing others on how to fight. The feeling in the pack when we were done was light and excited.

Afterward, I met with Beta Eric and Gamma Hugo to go over patrol schedules. While we were doing that, I got my first real dose of Gamma

Hugo. He’s lazy, that’s the only way to put it.

“That’s a really big area to patrol. Our patrols will be running miles if you expect them to cover both packs,” he says.

“First of all, we’re one pack. Second, if the shifts are the same length of time, then the amount of miles they run will be the same, they just won’t be looping around the same area over and over. And rather than two sets of patrols, we’re going to have four, two from each side of our ONE pack,” I say, stressing that we are one now.

“I mean, I guess it will work,” he says, shrugging.

“What doesn’t make sense about that, Gamma?” Beta Eric asks him.

“It just seems like as a much larger space our patrols will have to work harder. Maybe we should shorten the patrol times.”

“Why would we do that? The space is larger, yes. But if they’ve been patrolling as they should, there won’t be any additional running involved. If anything, having more space to run will give their wolves an opportunity to stretch their legs more. According to Thad, he and every other wolf he’s ever met would be thrilled to have that opportunity to run. If your patrols need stamina training, start working on that. We’re not decreasing the shift time, but we are increasing the area that they’ll be patrolling.”

When we finish creating the patrol assignments, I stay behind with Eric.

“How is he a Gamma?” I ask him once Hugo is gone.

“He was friends with Christer and Stellan.”

“Do you have any problem with me demoting him?” I ask him.

“No, although me being here on my own with a pack that is still feeling a little disconnected could be a difficult if he starts causing problems,

he says.

“I’ll talk to my father. If Hugo doesn’t improve over the next week, he’s out. If he keeps complaining or starts causing disruption or discontent in the pack, he’s not only going to be demoted, he’ll be out of the pack,” I tell him.

“Do you want me to keep you or Alpha Warren informed?” he asks.
