Her glare darted between Brenna and Ernst, panic flickering in her chest as she sensed her scheme beginning to unravel.

Sandra’s stomach knotted at her mother’s arrogance. The Harpers might be in trouble now, but they still had enough power and wealth to crush them both without effort.

She rushed to her mother’s side, tugging at her sleeve. “Mom, please, stop talking.”

Fear lined her words. She believed Keira’s reckless defiance could provoke the Harpers into silencing them for good.

But Keira shoved her hand away, her voice sharp. “What are you so afraid of? You are Shepard’s daughter! If I don’t fight for your rights, they’ll strip you of everything. Do you really think they won’t manipulate the DNA results to keep you out? Use your head!”
