Sloane’s chest clenched. She didn’t hesitate for a second. Urging her horse forward, she shot across the field like an arrow loosed from a bow.

The black stallion was still on a rampage, kicking up dust with every wild step. Its eyes were bloodshot, frothing at the mouth–completely unhinged.

Jill’s horse was just as terrified, bolting blindly across the field. Jill clung desperately to its neck, her face white as chalk, tears brimming in her eyes. She bounced helplessly with each jolt, about to be thrown at any moment.

Then, with a violent jerk, Jill was finally tossed from the saddle–but her foot caught in the stirrup. Her body dangled just inches above the ground, dragging limply behind the runaway horse.

Sloane’s heart dropped. Without pause, she veered toward the raging black stallion. As she drew close, she yanked a hairpin from her bun and, timing it perfectly, drove it into the side of the stallion’s neck.

The sharp tip sank into a nerve point. The stallion shrieked in agony, rearing up high and flinging its rider from the saddle. With a final scream, it collapsed to the ground.
