“Cameron, you’ve got guts! Ignoring my calls and texts like that—are we done being friends or what?”

“No,” Cameron replied instantly.

Jill, even angrier after hearing his denial, raised her voice.

“Then what’s with the disappearing act? I already explained! My roommate dragged me to a basketball game, and I forgot about our movie plans for a minute. That’s on me. I even promised to make it up to you with three more movies! What else do you want? Why are you so hung up on this? I honestly don’t get what you’re mad about!”

While Jill rattled on, Sloane took the opportunity to slip back into the bedroom, quietly shutting the door behind her to block out the noise from the living room.

Lucas was still lying on his stomach, right where she left him.

She quickly began removing the needles, explaining as she worked,

“Jill’s here. Get dressed and lie low for a bit.”

Lucas raised a brow. “Lie low?”

Sloane rolled her eyes. Trust him to get picky at a time like this. Still, to avoid Jill’s inevitable questions, she chose to pacify him.
