Lucas’s blood truly seemed to carry some kind of mysterious power. Gradually, Sloane’s body stopped trembling, and her breathing began to steady.

The tension in her brow slowly eased, and the pain on her face started to fade. Her teeth were still sunk into his arm, yet Lucas only looked at her with unwavering gentleness.

“It’s over now! Sloane, it’s all over…” he murmured softly, like he was soothing a frightened kitten.

At last, Sloane loosened her grip and released his arm. Lucas gently laid her back onto the bed and pulled the blanket up to cover her.
