Chapter 2021 Lady in the Room

When Serena heard what Cindy said, she let out a laugh. However, it was evident that Serena agreed with Cindy. "Honestly, I don't think the staff members gain anything from gossiping among each other. They only make themselves look like a nuisance."

Cindy nodded. "Yeah, I agree. I used to work as Ian's assistant, so I know how fake people can get." Serena seemed to relate to her statement. "Yeah. Human relationships are the toughest thing to deal with. Well, since you're being so understanding, then I guess I won't have to say anything else. You can leave now. You can contact me if you need anything."

When Cindy walked out of Serena's office, she could feel her colleagues staring at her with fearful gazes. They're probably afraid of me, huh? The one person who provoked me quit her job after Serena came back, so they're probably associating me with her resignation. Well, I guess it's a good thing. They say that it's lonely being at the top, but at least I get a better view at the top. Furthermore, these people won't bother me if they perceive themselves as below me.

Even though Julia being fired was her own doing, Cindy didn't want to explain this to anyone. She didn't mind being ostracized if it meant that no one would provoke her from then onward. For some reason, Cindy felt as if she had been promoted, and she even felt oddly proud about it.

Serena walked out of her office when it was nearing the end of the afternoon shift. She handed Cindy a copy of the documents that Cindy had 'misplaced' previously. As Cindy went through the papers, she could tell that Serena had gathered some extra information for her, probably as a form of compensation. The people around them didn't know what was going on, so they assumed that Serena was secretly giving Cindy some additional resources and tips. Things are different when you're someone with status and power, huh? But regardless of how uneasy they felt, none of them dared to reveal it on their faces.

This time, Cindy no longer dared to leave her documents in the office. When it came to the end of her shift, she placed the documents into her bag before leaving the company. As she walked out of the office, she gave Ian a call. In an indirect manner, she asked Ian if he was in his room. "I'm with the driver," he replied in a flat tone.

"Are there any ladies in there?"she asked again.

He laughed. "The lady left just a while ago. You're a little too late. If you called a little earlier, I could have gotten her to chat with you for a while."

Cindy wasn't sure if he was being serious, so all she could do was scoff. "I'll crush you if I catch you red-handed," she hissed.

"I'll try my best not to be caught," he mumbled. They continued chatting until Cindy's cab dropped her home. After she ended the call, she unlocked her front door to let herself into an empty house. She didn't enjoy the feeling of returning to an empty house every day. She didn't have the mood to prepare a meal for herself, so she simply went back to her room to lie on her bed.

On the other end, Ian lowered his phone as he sighed and threw his phone aside. Cindy's question had been on point—a lady had indeed left his room just a while ago, and she had indeed been there for him.

Sitting on the extra bed, the driver swung his legs back and forth. "Yulia seems rather different from before."
