Chapter 2031 Two Halves

Earlier, Cindy thought of her father. Even though our family doesn't have a tradition of hosting engagement parties, Dad would probably come to join us if he was alive, right? He might be a coward, but he would still try his best to fulfill his daughter's wishes.

Although Cindy didn't talk about it, she still felt rather dejected that not a single person from her family would be attending the engagement. She knew it would become one of her regrets in the future.

Upon hearing what Cindy said, Ian rolled over before giving her a gentle pat on the shoulder. Both of them may have similar experiences, but they had completely different feelings about it. Ian had never been good at comforting others, so he didn't know what to say at that moment. Cindy knew what Ian was thinking about, so she put a smile on her face. "Don't worry, I'm fine. I just happened to think about this matter." She turned to look at Ian. "I wonder if Miss Zimmerman will ever dream of your dad. I'm curious to know what she would do if she did."

Ian frowned and thought about her words. "She would probably give him a huge scolding. He passed away before she got what she wanted, after all. She might use her dreams as a means of expressing her anger since she can't do it to him in real life."

Ian spoke in a rather playful tone, and Cindy burst into laughter after hearing what he said. "I guess that does make sense. It feels like something that she would do."

He wrapped his arms around her waist as he felt himself getting sleepier and sleepier. He edged closer to her and shut his eyes as he spoke. "Some people just lack kindness and empathy, you know? People like them will live their lives thinking that it's always someone else's fault."

"I guess so." Cindy nodded. They were quiet for a while, and Ian fell asleep soon after that. Since Cindy couldn't sleep anymore, she waited for him to enter a deep sleep before she carefully slipped out of his arms. Then, she sat in the hall outside and scrolled through some entertainment news on her phone. She recalled something all of a sudden, and she decided to search for Yulia's name.

Most of her news was old news—there hadn't been any recent rumors about her. After that, Cindy went to stalk Yulia's social media account, but it seemed like Yulia had blocked others from leaving comments, probably because she was too sick of being criticized. Cindy felt a little more secure after seeing that there weren't any odd-looking rumors or articles. Maybe it's just like what Ian said. Yulia might have gone to visit him because she wanted him to put in a good word to save her reputation.

Cindy scratched the back of her head as she thought, Why am I contradicting myself? A part of me is telling me to stop thinking about this, yet I can't help but look for news articles related to Yulia. I feel like there are two halves of me. In the end, Cindy lowered her phone and hugged her knees as she looked out the window.

Humans will never be satisfied, she thought. All I wanted was money in the past. Now, Ian and I have more than enough to live comfortably, but I'm starting to feel greedy toward other things. Nothing's ever enough, huh? Cindy sat around for a while more before she left her room to visit Aurora's
