Chapter 57

Nancy couldn't tell how long she had slept, but it was dark outside when she finally opened her eyes again. Feeling utterly drained and sore, Nancy realized she was much more alert.

"Babe, you're awake!" A voice filled with surprise and unmistakable joy reached her.

As Nancy lifted her head, she caught sight of Judson, looking dashingly handsome in his disheveled state, rushing toward her. His eyes, filled with concern, made her heart skip a beat just as she opened her mouth to speak.

Judson swooped in, wrapping her in a tight embrace. "Nancy, you scared me to death. Do you know how long you've been out?"

Once again wrapped in Judson's arms, his familiar scent enveloping her, her heart raced uncontrollably. Nancy squirmed uncomfortably. "Let me go first."

"I'm not letting you go!" Judson's voice held a touch of childish sulkiness, his deep, bright eyes fixated on Nancy, slightly reddened at the edges.

"You've been out cold for seven hours. I had to feed you cold medicine three times, scared I'd have to rush you to the hospital! Thankfully, your fever broke."

Seeing the undisguised worry in Judson's eyes, Nancy felt a strange warmth, touched by his concern. However, spotting the empty water glass and the cold medicine capsule on the table, Nancy had a bad feeling. "How did you give me the medicine while I was out?"
