Chapter 218: Those Pillows Were Gone Now

Angela Poy

I stared at her, struggling to process what I was hearing. "You're moving back to New York? But don't you prefer living in Europe?"

Victoria waved her hand dismissively, as if relocating across continents was as simple as changing dinner plans. "What nonsense are you talking about? Alexander and 1 are getting older-what matters ow is family. We have two beautiful grandchildren we barely know. Everything else is secondary."

She reached across the dining table to refill Aria's glass with fresh juice. "Besides, New York is an excellent environment for Aria and Ethan to grow up in.

And didn't you establish your own investment company here? If you have any questions, feel free to ask Alexander-he'll help you develop your business properly. As for the children, we'll take excellent care of them when you're working."

With that, Victoria excused herself to discuss relocation plans with Alexander and check on the children's sleeping arrangements.

I made my way back to our bedroom-Sean's and mine-my mind spinning with disbelief.

The Shaw family was completely rearranging their lives around us. Despite my investment firm's success, it was nothing compared to the Shaw Group's empire. Yet here they were, abandoning their preferred lifestyle in Europe to support me and the children.

The bedroom door swung open with familiar resistance. Everything remained exactly as I remembered-the antique Parisian dresser, the custom-made chaise lounge by the window, even the cream-colored curtains that Sean had insisted on because they reminded him of my complexion in morning light.

I approached the massive king-sized bed tentatively, reaching out to touch the silk comforter. Five years ago, there had always been a thick wall of pillows dividing us, especially during our worst arguments.

Those pillows were gone now.

My phone buzzed with a text from Sean: Are you finished for the evening?

I replied: Yes, just got back to my room. Then, after a moment's hesitation: How was your day?

Instead of texting back, Sean initiated a video call. I debated whether to answer, then relented, accepting the call with slightly trembling fingers.

His face appeared on the screen, tired but alert. He noticed my surroundings immediately.

"You're in our bedroom?" His voice carried a surprised intimacy that made my chest tighten.

I glanced away, oddly self-conscious, as if I'd been caught doing something I shouldn't.
