Chapter 228

Ex-Wife

Chapter 228: Instinctive Rejection-1

Angela POV

"You are my fiancé?

"You don't believe me?" he asked, his expression falling.

I couldn't bring myself to respond. How could I believe something I couldn't remember?

My mind was a blank slate, a dark expanse where memories should have been.

Christopher sighed, running a hand through his hair. 'Angela, before you lost your memory, we had an argument. You were upset with me, refusing to speak to me. Surely you're not still angry now that you've forgotten everything?"

"We argued?" I asked softly, wondering if that explained the strange discomfort I felt at his proximity. My body seemed to instinctively pull away whenever he came too close.

"Yes," he confirmed. "Please, don't be difficult. Your condition requires rest. Let me take care of you, alright?"

I studied him carefully. "You say you're my fiancé... is that really true?"

His expression remained steady, showing no signs of deception that I could detect. "What, you argue with me once and suddenly don't want to recognize your own fiancé?"

His words stung, though I couldn't understand why. The emptiness in my mind terrified me-who was I? What kind of person had I

been?

"I just... feel strange," I admitted quietly. "When I look at you, nothing feels familiar."

Pain flashed across his face. "Amnesia is cruel, isn't it? To forget even your own fiancé."

"You truly don't remember me at all?" he asked, voice tinged with hurt.

"I'm sorry," I said honestly. "I can't remember anything. When I look at you, I don't feel any emotional connection between us."

Christopher fell silent for a moment. "Not all engaged couples are together because of love," he murmured.

"What?" I hadn't caught his words.

“Nothing,” he said quickly. “I just meant you're still the same as before."

Curiosity sparked within me. "The same as before? What was I like before?"

"When we first met, you were quite cold toward me," he explained. It took considerable effort on my part to win you over."

This information left me confused but somewhat reassured. Perhaps this explained the disconnect I felt-maybe I'd never been

particularly affectionate toward him.

Angela, Christopher pressed, "you can't deny my identity just because you've lost your memory. We haven't broken up. That's not fair to me."

Guilt washed over me. If what he said was true, I was being unfair. I'm sorry... I just... can't remember anything."
