My blood-soaked wedding dress had begun to stiffen as it dried, the once- pristine white lace now a grotesque reminder of how quickly happiness could shatter.

"I forgot my phone," I suddenly realized. "Sean, could you call David? Christopher's assistant? He should know what's happening."

Sean nodded, pulling out his phone. He dialed the number and waited, his free hand resting supportively on my shoulder.

"David? It's Sean Shaw," he said when the call connected. "You need to come to Metropolitan Hospital right away. Christopher's been injured. He paused, listening. "I'll explain everything when you get here." After giving the address, he hung up.

"What did he say?" I asked.

"He wanted to know what happened. I told him we'd explain when he gets here." Sean sighed, running a hand through his hair. "No point doing it twice."
