Chapter 183 Vance’s Rebellion

Geoffrey sat in a haze of rage and disbelief, his mind swirling with the years that Milton had freely interfered in the affairs of the Duke’s estate, often spending nights in Matilda’s chambers. At the time, he had believed it was nothing more than sibling affection. Little did he know, beneath the surface, it was something far more foul, more corrupt than he could ever have imagined.

The burning resentment in Geoffrey’s chest was consuming him, the bitter realization that his life, which had once seemed to promise love and power–marrying the woman of his dreams, receiving a noble title- had been utterly destroyed by Prudence. He had honored her for years, but it was she who had torn his life apart, unraveling everything he had ever cared about.

The anger gnawed at him, but slowly, his fury began to turn into a chilling calm. He had come back to kill Prudence and then end his own life in order to atone for Prunella’s death. But now, a different thought crossed his mind. He wouldn’t let her die easily. No, he wanted to keep her alive, to suffer. He wanted her to endure the torment of knowing her final days would be filled with anguish.

Ryker watched Geoffrey, then spoke softly, “There’s something else.”

Geoffrey looked up, his voice low and cold. “What is it? Speak.”

Ryker replied, “Esme and Noelle have returned. They say Isolde didn’t fall off the cliff. She went to Zloimond to find Doug.”

Geoffrey’s face twisted from fury to stunned disbelief. Slowly, the shock faded into something darker- elation. “Is that true?”

“Absolutely true,” Ryker confirmed. “When Prudence found out Isolde was still alive, she had a stroke and collapsed.”

Geoffrey closed his eyes, his heart racing with wild joy. She’s alive. Isolde is alive. Our daughter is alive.

Ryker bowed and began to leave, but Geoffrey stopped him. “Wait. Bring Esme and Noelle here.”

Ryker paused, then replied, “They’ve already packed up Isolde’s things. They’ve moved to the Sharp family.”

Geoffrey was stunned. He sank back into his chair, the weight of defeat crushing him. Yes, everything that had belonged to Prunella was being taken away–there was nothing left for him.
