“It’s a rare occurrence for other species to have a mate bond, but while it is a rarity it does occur.” Ambrose said thoughtfully, his hand on his chin as if he was in deep thought.

“Has a human ever had a mate bond with a vampire?” I ask, feeling nervous about this connection between Mary and I.

“Never.” Ambrose replied solemnly. “There’s never been a documented occasion where a vampire was mated to human, other speices yes, but never a vampire.”

I grimaced at his response, “If that’s the case then why mention the mate bond at all? Mary is a human.”

“It’s the only logical explanation,” Ambrose said, standing up from his chair, pacing my office. “I’d like to study Mary.”
