Chapter 27: Mary

I followed Kade quietly to the Queen’s suite, my mind racing with the events that had occurred today. Nikolai had called me his mate, what did that entail and why had the Beta wolf stated that I was a weakness to Nikolai, would I become a target for his enemies. Was my life in more danger now than it had previously been. Would whatever relationship, I had with Nikolai differ from what it was currently.

When I reached the Queen’s quarters, I was greeted by a shriek, my heart skipped a beat, thinking that someone had been injured. “Mary.” Nevaeh screamed engulfing me in her arms.“ I thought something terrible had happened to you, Kade had said something had occurred in the King’s chambers and that his presence was needed and when he dropped me off in the Queen’s room and you weren’t here…” Nevaeh sobbed,“ I thought, that perhaps that Nikolai had lost control of his rage, due to your obtuseness of behaving, and he’d killed you.” She continued to sob and she pulled me into a tight bone crushing hug.

I grimaced my body still battered and bruised from my attempt to fight off Beta Daniels, but I didn’t want to worry Nevaeh more, so I bared through the pain. Kade must have noticed my distress because he commanded Nevaeh to release me from her death grip.

“Nevaeh, that is enough.” Kade commanded, his tone sharp, but laced with kindness, and perhaps some fondness towards his blood slave.

Nevaeh blushed two shades of red, pulling away from me. “Sorry,” she mumbled, looking up at me, “I got carried away from my worry for you, and I didn’t realize I was causing you more pain.” Nevaeh still had tears in her eyes, as she turned towards Kade, her eyes sweeping over his body.

“Nevaeh, why don’t you help..” Kade paused for a moment as he tried to recall my name, “Mary, into a change of new clothes. I will bring you a bowl of hot water from the bathroom and you can help her clean up as well.”

  • My heart warmed towards Kade, at his kindness to help me recover from the tragedy that I had just

endured.

Just as Nevaeh had helped me pull the remnants of my tattered dress from my body, I heard a quiet knock on the closet door, signaling Kade had

I need a few minutes alone. Do you mind waiting outside?” I asked, feeling myself becoming overwhelmed

a few seconds before responding, “Of course Mary, let me know if you need anything.” Nevaeh responded, walking out of the closet, gently

a pair of sweats, ignoring my undergarments. My body hurt too much to even think of putting a bra on and I didn’t have any clean underwear in the closet. When I walked out of the closet, I was shocked by the sight of Nevaeh in Kade’s arms as he rubbed comforting circles on her back, his lips pressed against her forehead. From what little I knew about Vampires and Blood Slaves, this wasn’t normal. Usually vampires only viewed blood slaves as food, and that was it. I cleared my throat to let my presence be known, causing Kade and Nevaeh to quickly pull apart, Nevaeh’s face flushing red, and Kade face looking guilty like he’d been caught in an act of treason. From what little I knew of Kade

being someone’s mate, but the other person at risk?” I asked nervously twiddling my fingers. Kade’s face paled as he looked at me, trying to read my emotions. I took a deep breath, exhaling slowly to calm my nerves before I proceeded. “Because when King Nikolai returned to his room, his vampire side took control and roared at the werewolf Beta, to get off of his mate, and then later in the evening, Daniels told Nikolai that it was

I felt my heartbeat increase, as well as my breathing as my body went into full blown panic. I tried counting backwards from ten, breathing in and out slowly, but I couldn’t stop the panic attack, that was slowly taking over my body.
