Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Annoyingly Smug Grin of His

For a second, she just looked at him.

Her eyes froze that same sharp silver, but softer somehow. Like she was searching for something in his face and couldn’t find it.

Then her expression changed in seconds, like none of it mattered anymore.

Before Kael could say anything, her fist came flying straight at him.

He barely had time to dodge. The hit landed against his shoulder with a dull thud, but it was strong enough to make him grumble.

"Get out!" she snapped, her voice rising, shaking a little. "Before I scream and call the guards. They’ll drag you out in the worst way possible."

Kael just looked at her and then smiled.

Not nervous. Not scared. Just that same small, shameless smile that made her blood boil.

"I’m going, I’m going," he said lazily, lifting his hands like in surrender. "You don’t have to threaten me. I can do anything you say, like a loyal lover should, right?"

Serena blinked at him, half angry, half speechless. "You... what are you even saying? Do you have no shame?"

He tilted his head, pretending to think. "No. Not when it comes to you."

Her eyes widened. "You...!"

She took a step forward like she might actually hit him again. He didn’t even move. He just stood there, grinning like an idiot.

"Are you serious right now?" she hissed. "I should just throw you out myself."

"Go ahead," he said, still smiling. "But if you touch me again, I might think you want me to stay."

That did it.

Her face turned red from anger or embarrassment; even she didn’t know. "Get out!"

He chuckled. A low, quiet sound that made her want to throw something at him.

"Alright, alright. Don’t look at me like that. It’s dangerous," he said, stepping closer instead of back. "You’ll make me fall for you harder."

Before she could react, he leaned in and brushed a quick kiss against her cheek.

It wasn’t rough or demanding. Just soft and fleeting, but enough to make her freeze completely.

"You...!" she gasped, but he had already stepped away, a flicker of light burning in his eyes.

That wild look in his eyes and the way his eyes lit up with one look of her, like he’d just found something he’d been searching for all his life.

"I knew it," he whispered, almost to himself. "You really are real."

And with that, he turned and leapt up to the window, disappearing into the night.

Serena stood there for a long second, breathing hard.

Then she sat down on the bed, pressing her palm against her face. Her heart was still pounding like it wanted to jump out of her chest.

She took a deep breath.

Then another, but it didn’t help.

"What the hell was that?" she whispered, her voice shaking a little.

Her eyes fell on the table beside the bed, on a glass of water. She grabbed it quickly and drank, trying to calm herself down.
