Chapter 0237

Lottie POV

I stood in the doorway, my heart pounding as I listened to the muffled conversation Adam was having. The smell of sweet potato fries wafted through the air, a scent so familiar it almost made me dizzy. Adam had put them in the air fryer before leaving the room. I wasn't stupid, I knew exactly who he was on the phone too even if he was trying hard to keep it from me. It was Kane. He was the only one who knew how much I loved them. the fact he remembered that detail, even now had me smiling despite myself. When Adam left the room, I crept closer, standing silently in the hallway to catch more of their conversation. The familiar pull towards Kane was strong, almost overwhelming. I clenched my fists, willing myself to shut it down, to control the surge of emotions that threatened to spill over. Just then, Connie's voice cut through the air, shouting down the phone at Adam. Her words were laced with insults, each one sharper than the last. It was painful to hear, but what hurt more was that Kane did nothing to defend my pups, our pups. Was he now questioning their parentage?

I was aware of Liam standing behind me, his presence a steady, silent support. Adam sensed me and turned to look directly at me as he rolled his eyes at Connie's blabbering. Her voice was grating, full of venom, but Adam held his ground and stayed calm. Stepping into the room, it took me seconds to find my voice and knock Connie off her pedestal, although I doubt it would be for long.

The gasp that came from her lips echoed down the phone and gave me a sense of satisfaction. Despite the insults, she kept lunging at me, I had refused to lower myself to her level.

"I am better than this." I soughed inwardly as I stepped away from Adam and his phone. So over this drama.
