Chapter 544: It Had All Started Out So Carefully...

Who am I?

The thought hit her hard, almost as if it were foreign to her, a question she had never asked herself before.

She did not know. She had no idea.

The voices and the echoes of the celebration around her faded into the background, and all that remained was the silence of her own confusion. She did not even realize she was heading toward a place where no one would find her. Her mind was too full, too lost.

Nnenna reached the forest, unaware that Arthur was trailing behind her, his footsteps quieter than she realized.

The cool air of the woods brushed past her, but her mind was still tangled in the fragments of memories she could not fully understand. She needed to be alone, to think, but even here, it felt like something, someone, was following her.

"Nnenna," Arthur’s voice called out, calm as ever, but with an unusual edge to it. The coldness of his tone, something Nnenna had come to recognize as his normal, was tinged with something more urgent now. Something off.

The sound of his voice pulled her out of her spiral. She turned, finding him standing there, just a few paces away.

At first, she didn’t even recognize him, not fully. He was standing there, his usual neat appearance in disarray. His white shirt was wrinkled, the sleeves rolled up messily, his hair even more tousled than usual.

There was a crease between his brows, something Nnenna had never really seen on his face before. He was always so composed, so sure of himself. But now... the lines of exhaustion, frustration, and confusion etched on his face made him seem almost vulnerable.

He was... different.
