Mary stood still and waved Toby goodbye as she watched him drive away, only going back inside after the car could no longer be seen.

If you think it’ll be too late by the time you get here, I can tell Mrs. Lane we’ll be late. Don’t speed just because you want to get here in time. It’s perilous.”
