“Okay,” he said calmly.

And with that, the arrangements were made.

As they left the hospital, Elissa turned toward him, gratitude written across her face. “Mr. Flynn, thank you. Truly… I’m so grateful.”

Ernest glanced at her briefly, his lashes lifting just slightly. “Okay,” he replied again, evenly.

Elissa turned to Hadley and squeezed her hand. “See?” she whispered.

Hadley couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. She had noticed it too. Ernest wasn’t exactly talkative to begin with, but even by his standards, he was being unusually quiet around Elissa. Yet there was no trace of irritation or impatience in him.

Still curious, Hadley glanced over at Ernest again—and then she saw it. His ears were faintly red.
