“Okay,” Old Mr. Parks replied. He then instructed, “Anna is pregnant. Don’t let her go out. Stay at home.” “Okay,” Julian replied. The driver, Mr. Dewey, also heard Julian’s call. He asked, “Mr. Parks, are we heading to the office?” “Let’s go back to the villa first,” Julian said. After the previous incident with Nancy, he would not let Annalise be alone. “Why don’t we go to the office first? I’ll go with you. I won’t get out of the car. I’ll wait for you in here,” Annalise said after glancing at the time. The villa and the company building were in two different directions. Going back and forth would take a lot of time. Since he was going to the office, he should get there as soon as possible and settle the matter. Julian thought for a moment and agreed. “Okay. Mr. Dewey, let’s go to the company.” “Okay,” Mr. Dewey replied. He turned around at the intersection ahead and drove toward the company. Julian called Trevor. “I’m going to the company with Annalise. Arrange for a few people to protect Annalise in the parking lot later.” “Okay,” Trevor replied. Annalise smiled gently. Her heart was warm, and her voice became gentler. “There’s no need for that. As long as I don’t get out of the car, it should be fine.” Perhaps there were no schemes or traps. She must have been suspicious for no reason. “I feel more at ease with someone protecting you.” Julian leaned over and reached out to touch Annalise’s stomach. He said gently to the baby, “Sweetie, be good. Being pregnant with you is not easy for Mommy.” Annalise smiled reproachfully. “It’s still so early. How would the baby understand these things? It’s probably only the size of a fist.” Julian said, “It should be bigger than that. You’ll be four months pregnant soon.” “The first few months of growth are quite slow. It won’t start gaining weight until the later stage of pregnancy…” Suddenly, Annalise felt something moving in her stomach. Her eyes were filled with surprise. Then, she carefully felt for it again. There was no more movement. Annalise guessed she must be hallucinating. She wanted to feel the baby kick so badly. “What’s wrong?” Julian asked. Annalise smiled and shook her head. “It’s nothing.” Julian’s eyes lit up. “Did the baby kick you?” His eyes were bright. They were full of surprise, anticipation, and excitement… “Pfft.” Annalise burst out laughing. “Our baby is only this big now. How could it kick me?” Annalise clenched her fist and gestured. Julian’s large palm wrapped around Annalise’s fist. He smiled and said, “Don’t gesture like this in the future. Our baby doesn’t look like this. Although it’s still little, it already has small arms and legs. Look.” He took out his phone and opened the pregnancy app. It recorded the number of days of pregnancy and illustrated how the baby looked currently. “When did you download this?” Annalise smiled, her eyes turning into crescent moons. She thought Julian must love her a lot, downloading such an app even when he was a man. “The day I found out you were pregnant,” Julian said. Not only did he download it, but he also looked at it every day. He memorized everything he had to take note of. In the past, he had even visited the mothers’ forum on the app. At first, he wanted to learn from these expecting mothers, but when he opened it, all the mothers were only venting their personal experiences. “My husband cheated on me. What am I going to do? I’m eight months pregnant.” “I saw something I shouldn’t have seen on my husband’s phone. Girls, have you experienced this before?” “My husband changed his phone password. He often goes to the toilet for half an hour. Is he cheating on me?” “A pregnancy is so long. I can tolerate it. But I feel bad for my husband.” “I want to find a nice girl to satisfy my husband…” His worldview was about to shatter into pieces when he saw these posts. Why couldn’t these women treat themselves better? Did they have to suffer that much? Being pregnant was already so difficult, but they still pitied their husbands. If these husbands could not even hold their urges during a single pregnancy, they might as well cut that thing off. After cutting it off, there would be no more pregnancies. If a woman did not love herself, how could a man cherish her? Annalise was looking at the baby’s estimated size on the app when she suddenly felt another slight movement in her stomach. Her eyes lit up again. Immediately after, she felt a little hungry. She looked around. “Honey, what are you looking for?” Julian asked. “I’m trying to see if there’s anywhere to eat.” Annalise said. Julian laughed. He reached out and pulled open the mini-fridge. There were peaches, milk, smoked salmon, grapes, biscuits, and more. Annalise looked at Julian in surprise. “I remember your car used to be filled with mineral water.” “Yeah. After you got pregnant, I had someone clear out those bottles. I had them prepare delicious. snacks whenever you go out. The servants warmed the milk, and they baked the biscuits, too.” Julian said. “Then I’ll eat the biscuit.” Annalise reached out to take it. “Have the peach first. Take out the biscuits and put them aside for a while. They’re still cold,” Julian said as he took out the biscuits and milk. “Okay.” Julian gave Annalise a peach for her to chew on. He reached out to touch Annalise’s stomach again. Suddenly, he felt a movement. He suddenly looked at Annalise. Annalise looked back at him. Their eyes were filled with surprise. Then, like two fools, they said in surprise, “Our baby kicked!” “Maybe my intestines moved.” Annalise laughed. She had always thought that the baby would not. start kicking so early. Moreover, even if it moved, she should only feel it herself. Julian should not be able to feel it. “It must be the baby.” Julian was as happy as a child. When he smiled, he looked warm. He had a boy-next-door kind of charm. They arrived at Parks Group. There was a crowd standing in front of the building. Julian instructed Annalise, “Honey, no matter what happens, don’t get out of the car. Stay in the car. Mr. Dewey, take good care of her.” “Yes, Mr. Parks,” Mr. Dewey replied. Julian was about to get out of the car when Annalise grabbed his hand. He turned his head to look at her gently and leaned forward to kiss her forehead. “I’ll be back soon.” “Be careful,” Annalise said. Julian smiled and nodded. “Don’t worry.” After Julian left the car, Annalise leaned against the window and looked up. She saw a man sitting on the railing of the top floor of the Parks Group’s company building. He must be on the 80th floor. Below, the crowd waved their hands. Some advised him not to jump, shouting until their throats were hoarse. They said that he only had one life. No matter how difficult it was, he had to keep living. If he was not afraid of death, why would he be afraid of living? But some were egging him on, too. “If you want to jump, jump. After you jump, I still have to go home for lunch. It’s been almost an hour.” Annalise’s phone rang. It was Trevor. Trevor said with affection, “Anna, my men are here. There are four of them. All of them are wearing black windbreakers. The second button is white. It’ll be easy to recognize them.” “Yes, I saw them,” Annalise replied. She saw four men walking over from nearby. “Alright, be careful. I’ll be right there,” said Trevor. “It’s fine, Trevor. You don’t have to come. There’s no need to send so many people,” Annalise said. “I’m also coming over to see if I can help in any way,” Trevor said. Actually, he was going to send Annalise home. After being hit by the poisonous dart, he realized nothing else mattered as long as he protected his family. He had zero interest in interfering with other people’s business. Some people would save others but failed to keep their families safe. And some people would save others by sacrificing themselves, leaving their old parents, wives, and children with no one to rely on. Trevor had no interest in these things. If these people were given a second chance at life, they might have made a different choice.
