Clayton remarked sarcastically, “I know Kallie. She’d be disgusted if she saw this. She’d probably want to redecorate the whole place.”

“Exactly,” his assistant chimed in.

“This guy is so full of himself. How could Miss Nixon ever be interested in him? He’s old and ugly, nothing like you, Mr. Morgan.”

Clayton wasn’t pleased with the assistant’s flattery and gave him a sharp look.

“What do you mean by comparing me to that loser?” he snapped.

The assistant panicked and shook his head rapidly.

“Mr. Morgan, I didn’t mean it that way, I swear!”

Gracelyn had likely discovered his connection to Kallie, and keeping her captive was some sort of revenge against him. Presumably, Gracelyn had used some underhanded tactics to keep Kallie

fueling his anxiety. He knew Gracelyn was holding Kallie hostage to force him into the open, a trap he knew he had no choice but to walk
