The moment the doorknob turned, Olivia sensed it immediately. She turned her head and saw Chris standing at the doorway, Her pupils constricted at the sight of those familiar eyes, and her heart clenched so hard it almost hurt.

Her mind raced at lightning speed. Without a second thought, she ended the phone call.

Chris frowned. His sharp gaze flickered with something unreadable as he spoke. “Who’s going to prison?”

He had heard

Olivia’s breath hitched. “Oh… so you canh that, huh?

“Olivia, could you…” Chris said.

“It was just a scam call. I told him to stop messing around, or he would end up in jail. What are you thinking?” She forced herself to stay calm, but inside, she was already in a full–blown panic.

No one, especially Chris and the Hart family, could ever find out about what happened back then. If they did, she was as good as dead

“That so?” Chris‘ eyes remained deep and unreadable.

Olivia nodded. “Of course. What else would it be?”

Chris reached out and ruffled her soft hair in a seemingly affectionate gesture. “Nothing”

But the moment she couldn’t see his expression, a shadow of deep thought flashed across his eyes.

Their phones were all specially encrypted. Scam calls shouldn’t even be able to get through.

“Chris, when can I be discharged?” Olivia wrapped her arms around his lean waist, her tone carrying a trace of anticipation.

She was desperate to leave this place. Besides, several of her friends had already asked her if Chris had really bought Whispering Bay, Shallow Bay Area for her.

Their voices had been dripping with envy.

Olivia had confidently told them it was true and that she would be moving there soon to recuperate. They had even started making plans for a celebration in her honor, eagerly organizing everything down to the guest list.

She believed in Chris. He would buy Whispering Bay for her.

And at that moment, Chris was lost in thought.

As Olivia clung to his waist, Chris‘ body tensed involuntarily. He didn’t even know why, but deep down, an unfamiliar sense of resistance welled up inside him

“Soon,” he said.

Keeping his movements controlled, he gently grasped Olivia’s arms and pried them off his waist.

Olivia didn’t notice anything off about him. Still looking pitiful, she sighed. “I don’t want to make things difficult for you, the smell of disinfectant every day is unbearable.”

Chris nodded. “I know.”
