Charli sighed in exasperation. "Indeed. He might likely lie to you for money. You would have fallen into his trap if you believed him."

Elisa smiled. "Forget it. Let's leave it for now. I'll have to take it slow for this."

She had never seen her mother. Though she had a strong urge to know about her, she had other matters to attend to. Hence, she planned to find out the truth altogether.

Charli nodded. "Okay. It's getting late. I'm heading back now. Take a good rest."

Elisa got up with her and sent her off.

The next day, Nicole had lunch with her friend, Veronica Newman, in a private room.

Nicole was rather deep in her thoughts. She held her cutlery but didn't eat anything.

Seeing how distracted she was, Veronica asked, "What's wrong?"

Nicole returned to her senses and replied, "Nothing."

She also put down her fork and looked at Nicole. "Nothing? I don't believe you!"

Veronica wore a crimson dress and put on some makeup. Even after dolling up, her beauty was no match for Nicole.

Nicole's gaze flickered. I've been thinking about the problem alone. It's time to brainstorm with others.

With that thought in mind, she started the conversation with a statement. "I met Linda yesterday."

"Linda? Why are you meeting her?"

Linda's reputation had completely turned sour at that point.

Hence, Veronica was baffled upon hearing that.

"She sought me out first." With that, Nicole took a sip of juice from her glass.

"What for? That woman has gone bonkers. She's not asking you to do something for her, is she? You mustn't agree!"
