Chapter 33 Trouble

Ethan glanced at Jasmine and remained silent.

Was it intentional on her part? If so, that wasn't too dumb.

He had pegged Jasmine as the timid type, someone who wouldn't know how to fight

back. A little cunning was always better than sheer cowardice.

"She's looking out for herself," said the assistant. "In San Francisco, only you can protect her. You really should avoid this kind of trouble." He considered Jasmine to be nothing but a nuisance.

"Just drive," Ethan said, frowning.

His assistant quickly shut up.

Ethan was a smart guy who hated complications more than anything. The heiress of the Brown family had become an inescapable hassle, and now here was Jasmine, potentially another.

"Mr. Douglas... Miss Brown is always looking for you," his assistant ventured again, growing bolder from the time spent with Ethan. "If you don't visit her for a day, she starts causing a scene. You accidentally charmed her once, and now look at the trouble you've got. You're stuck with her."

His assistant was playing with fire.

After a pause, he spoke up again. "Miss Brown is actually quite nice, beautiful, and kind-hearted. She's just a bit too obsessed with you, so she's a little extreme. You'll have to settle down someday, and the shares your father left you can only be accessed once you're married."

Ethan arched an eyebrow; Liam was particularly chatty tonight. "Did the Browns send you a gift?"

Liam nearly bit his tongue and shook his head quickly. "No, nothing. I wouldn't dare." Ethan snorted derisively. It seemed like a bribe. "Just drive and turn on the heater." Noticing that Jasmine was shivering, Ethan instinctively placed his hand on her shoulder.
