Chapter 47 A Proposal Ceremony You’ll Never Forget

Zane started to object when he saw his son and adopted daughter get into the same limousine, but Joanne laid a calming hand on his arm.

“It’s fine, dear,” she said smoothly. “The maid of honor can ride in the main car. Besides, it’s Luna. It’s fine.”

Zane grumbled but let it go.

Alyssa had insisted on accompanying her grandfather today. She’d promised Kaia she wouldn’t leave his side. His heart medication was in her pocket, ready if his color showed even the slightest change.

Yesterday, Alyssa had grilled Kaia about her plan. She knew Kaia wanted out of this engagement badly. But Kaia was playing this one incredibly close to the vest, not even telling her supposed best friend. Alyssa fumed silently. Just wait until today is over. I am going to have words with Kaia!

At the wedding venue, Kimberly spotted her most glamorous friend immediately. “Luna, you look stunning!”

Luna offered a small smile. “You too, Kimberly.” She glanced pointedly at the Domont family’s section. “Where’s Kaia? Don’t

tell me the bride’s going to be late to her own wedding.”

Her voice, though not loud, carried just far enough to reach Zane and Joanne’s ears. A flicker of annoyance crossed Joanne’s usually placid features. She looked at Sally. “Sally, dear. Kaia is coming, isn’t she?” –

Sally laughed brittlely, “Oh, you know, traffic! The makeup artist was late. She’ll be here any second, I’m sure!” The truth was, they had no clue. Kaia’s phone had been going straight to voicemail all morning.

Families mingled, and guests chatted, but everyone was waiting for Kaia to make an appearance.

The minutes ticked by. Eleven o’clock loomed. Zane and Tobias guided the guests to their seats.

Zane leaned close to Alden. “What the hell is going on? Where’s your bride?”

Tobias was practically sweating bullets. “Kimberly, call your sister again! Find her, damn it!”

A wave of pure annoyance washed over Alden.
