Chapter 55 Stay Out of My Way

Kaia spoke little, offering only a polite smile to each guest who came to pay their respects.

Ever scheming, Sally seized a moment after a group of mourners left to pull Tobias into a quiet corner.

“What’s happening with your mother’s 5% shares?” she whispered. “You’re not seriously giving them to Kaia, are you?”

Tobias hesitated, his voice low. “Let’s hold off on that for now. You saw her eyes. They’re unsettling. I’m almost scared to bring it up.”

They both knew how much Claire meant to Kaia.

“Fine,” Sally agreed. “But once your mother’s buried, we need to settle this quickly.”

Unbeknownst to them, a slender figure lingered in the shadows, letting out a soft, mocking laugh.

“Kimberly, Kaia’s kind of creepy,” one of the guests whispered. “Your grandma doted on her, didn’t she? How’s she not

shedding a single tear?”

Kimberly dabbed at her eyes with exaggerated care, her voice dripping with false pity. “Who knows? Maybe Kaia’s got a heart

“Kimberly, you’re just too kind,” her friend said. “Some people are just cold to the core.”
