Chapter 57 Mystery Guy

Kimberly shrugged, playing fake innocent. “Or… forget it. I probably saw it wrong.”

Alden stared, brows drawing tight. “Which corner?” His voice dropped cold.

“Over there,” she pointed, then smiled sweetly. “But hey, don’t tell her I said anything, okay? She’ll kill me.”

“I won’t.”

Alden turned and walked off, his sympathy burning away under suspicion. His head spun with one thought-figuring out who that mystery guy was. No wonder she dumped him so fast; she already had someone else.

Rounding the corner, he nearly stumbled. There Kaia was, crouched low, looking at a photo of her grandma.

“You…” His voice caught, jealousy nearly spilling out. “You okay?” he asked, rough but sincere.

Kaia looked up, then quickly looked away. “Yeah. I’m fine.”

“Look, Kaia, you don’t gotta be strong all the time. If you need anything, say it.”

“Really?” She looked at the photo one last time, stood up, wiped her hands, and said softly, “Anything?”

“Yeah,” Alden said quickly. “Anything I can do, I’ll do it.”

“Alright.” A slow, almost smug smile touched her face. “Then I want this, Alden-stay out of my life. My one ask? I never wanna see you again. Think you can handle that?”

Alden barely remembered getting home that day. Luna took one look at him and knew something was off.

“Alden, what’s going on? You look totally spaced out,” Luna said, narrowing her eyes at him.

He opened his mouth, but the words just wouldn’t come.

[Luna, Alden went looking for Kaia. Bet he caught her cozying up with some random guy. Relax, she’s out of your way now.]

Luna skimmed the message, and her heart sank. She knew exactly what Kimberly was hinting at.
