Chapter 100 Kaia Looks After Lucien

The next day arrived in a quiet rush.

Kaia was still caught up in the somber rhythm of her grandmother’s memorial rituals. There were fourteen more days to go before the mourning period would end.

Thinking of her promise to bring Lucien soup, Kaia left the law firm early at three in the afternoon and headed to the Domont Villa.

In their tradition, today’s arrangements fell to the deceased’s daughter or granddaughter.

Kaia, shouldering the responsibility, stopped by the market for fresh ingredients and spent the afternoon in the kitchen, preparing a few dishes with care.

As she was getting ready to head to the memorial, her father, Tobias, walked in.

“Kaia, you’re home?” His voice carried a note of surprise, as if he hadn’t expected to see her.

Kaia’s eyes dimmed for a moment. “Dad, it’s my duty to handle things at home today, according to custom.”

Tobias‘ face stiffened briefly, a flicker of guilt crossing his

features. “Right, I got caught up with work and forgot. You should’ve reminded me, Kaia. What if I’d made plans for tonight?”

“If you miss it, you miss it,” Kaia said softly, her voice tinged with resignation. “It’s not like it’s the first time.”

Tobias frowned, his tone sharpening. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

Before she could respond, he shifted gears, pulling out his phone with a spark of excitement. “By the way, Kaia, is this you and Lucien in the photo?”

surprise.

“Who sent you that? Are you having me followed?”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” Tobias said, waving off her suspicion. “Why would I have you tailed? Kimberly sent it to me. She spotted you while shopping yesterday.”

He conveniently left out the less–than–flattering remarks Kimberly had made about Kaia.

Kaia didn’t need him to spell it out–she could guess what her sister had said. Nothing good, that was for sure.

“So, is it Lucien or not?” Tobias pressed, his eyes gleaming with
