Chapter 163 There’s No Going Back

Alden sat motionless, his fists clenched so tightly on his knees that the cracking of his knuckles cut through the thick silence.

Under the weight of everyone’s stares, he finally reached for his glass. His voice came out strained, tight with resentment he couldn’t hide.

“Aunt Kaia,” he said, raising the glass stiffly, “let me offer you a toast.”

Kaia lifted her cup without so much as a smile. Her tone was flat.

“Thanks, dear nephew.”

That single word–nephew–landed like a punch to the gut.

Alden’s eyes burned, and hé blinked quickly, his grip on the glass tightening.

For the rest of the meal, an awkward tension hung in the air.

Everyone except Lucien and Kaia–seemed to be in a sour mood.

Allen sat quietly, tørn. He wanted to stand with Lucien, who had always been sharp and dependable, but Alden was his grandson. No matter how fair he tried to be, some things were easier said

than done.

After dinner, Lucien and Kaia returned to their villa together.

Allen called Alden into the study, his tone serious.

“Alden, do you still wanna be with Luna?”

He didn’t wait for an answer.

“The engagement with the Domont family was arranged by your grandmother before she passed. You agreed, half–heartedly, and then treated Kaia like an afterthought. You dragged things out for years.”

Allen’s voice sharpened. “I know you’ve had feelings for Luna. But did you ever stop to think why I kept you two apart?”
